AKOYA PEARL GIFT PACKAGE (How To Open?)

    The akoya pearl gift package comes with a 16" sterling silver chain and a sterling silver cage to put you new pearl in. The oyster is sealed in a can. That is easily opened with the pop-top. There is no odor. Simply open the can, drain the liquid and remove the oyster. To open the oyster use a dull knife, such as a butter knife, you will need to work the knife around to break the hinge in order for the oyster to open. Don't worry the pearl is inside the oyster, it will not simply fall out. Once the oyster is open using your fingers feel the oyster for the pearl and push it out to reveal your pearl. Wipe the pearl off with a damp soft cloth to remove any residue, then take and open the cage, place the pearl inside, close the cage and slide the chain thru the charm. Now your wish pearl is ready to wear.  

MYSTERY

      There is a legend behind the wish pearls as why are they called so and it dates back to ancient times. It is said that on a faraway island of South China Sea, there was one magic mussel that gestated a very colorful pearl.  If someone could open that mussel while making a wish, it would come true for sure.  Knowing this well, many brave and courageous men from far and wide would come to this island to search the magic mussel and make their wishes come true.  Once a lover dived in and found the mussel.  It was surprising that he did not make any wish and did not even open the mussel, but patiently waited till his favorite lover come by.  He told her where to fetch the magic mussel from so that she could make a wish.  When the mussel was fetched and opened by the girl, the real magic powers of that pearl got completely released.  Though it is just legend, but the belief of wishes holding true by opening mussels still lives on.
